Sunday Golf Ryder 23 Bag Review: Total Comfort & Maximum Convenience

Hello Friends! Are you ready to delve into another exciting golf bag review? Recently, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with the Sunday Ryder 23 by the renowned Sunday Golf Company. These folks are all about crafting lightweight stand bags tailored for those who prefer to walk a golf course. With catchy slogans like "Fore the Weekend" and "Carry Less, Enjoy More," their laid-back ethos is hard to resist. But don't let their casual vibe fool you; the Sunday Ryder has everything a golfer needs at under 5 pounds and with a dual "x" strap carry system that goes on and off like a breeze. With this bag, you can focus on your game while having a blast on the course.

I recently had the chance to enjoy a memorable round with the Sunday Ryder 23 during a business trip to Washington, DC. East Potomac Golf Links, a place I frequented in my early professional years, provided a perfect Fall backdrop. It was a fantastic trip down memory lane, playing on a classic public golf course with sweeping views of the Washington Monument, the Potomac River, and even a flyover by Marine One.

Priced at $259 retail, the Sunday Ryder 23 offers an exceptional blend of style and functionality. But how does it fare on the course, you ask? Well, let's dive into my field test for a complete review!

Features of the Sunday Ryder 23 Golf Bag

The Sunday Ryder 23 stands out as one of the most feature-packed bags I've come across. It leaves no stone unturned, offering dedicated pockets for everything and five enclosed dividers to keep your clubs in pristine order. Right out of the box, the midnight green colorway caught my eye, and I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the materials, especially considering its sub-$300 price point.

When I say it has everything, I mean it. Here's a quick rundown of the standout features:

  1. Felt-lined valuables pouch

  2. Spacious gear compartments

  3. Velcro patch for your golf glove

  4. Frosty pocket to keep four cans of your favorite drinks cold

  5. A “smell proof” gear pocket to “elevate any day on the course”

  6. Internal dividers in that gear pocket to keep tees, balls, and ball markers organized during your round

  7. Umbrella slot

  8. Rain hood

  9. Water resistant zippers

  10. Side water bottle sleeve

  11. Side pockets for quick-access items like rangefinders, snacks, or sunglasses

  12. A cart strap for securing your bag to the cart

  13. Dual “x-strap” system for easy on/off and a handle on top for extra grip

  14. Removable front gear panel that you can personalize

Honestly, the only feature it’s missing is a slot for a pen, which I found slightly strange since they include a free Sharpie along with your purchase (and an air freshener for your car). But I’m nitpicking! This bag has it all! And it’s available in 5 different colorways so you can find one that matches your personality and style.

The Sunday Ryder 23 is their first 14-club stand bag. Before its release this year, Sunday Golf Company focused on lightweight golf bags like the Sunday Loma which carry up to six clubs. I had the opportunity to review the Sunday Loma golf bag as well, and it is a great option for anyone looking for a smaller bag for quick nines, par 3s or range sessions. With the addition of the Ryder to their line, you can find the right golf bag to fit your game from Sunday Golf Company

So the bag has everything you need, but how does it carry? I took it out to the Red Course at East Potomac Golf Links to find out.

Field Test Review of the Sunday Ryder Stand Bag

When you primarily walk (the best way to see the course, in my opinion), certain factors are top of mind. First is the strap system. The Ryder 23 has a dual “x strap” system, meaning the two straps are fixed in the cross position to make backpack-style carry ultra-convenient. The last thing you want to deal with during your round is having to mess with your strap adjustment. The Sunday Ryder goes on like a breeze and needs minimal adjustment to get the right fit. Handles at the top and bottom of the bag make it easy to secure in transit, and the top handle facilitates taking the bag off before you start your pre-shot routine

The sturdy legs and moveable base ensure stability even on hilly terrain, which will be important to me as my course is steep and hilly. I also liked how the water bottle sleeve is accessible while wearing the bag, so you can take a drink while you walk and focus your attention on golf course strategy. The velcro strap for your glove is another nice touch; while it’s not a chore to stash a glove in your back pocket, it’s a nice feature being able to stick it to the side of your bag while you chip and putt.

Weighing in at just 4.9 pounds, the Sunday Ryder 23 isn't the absolute lightest stand bag on the market, but it's lighter than many of its competitors. The padding on the right side provides a comfortable cushion on your hip, ensuring maximum comfort throughout the day.

Organization is another critical aspect I look for in a stand bag. The internal dividers in the gear pocket offer a convenient solution for storing golf balls, tees, and markers. Less time spent rummaging around at the bottom of the pocket for your lucky tee or divot tool means more time for strategic thinking on the golf course.

One more noteworthy feature is the two open pockets on the side. I initially wondered if they would securely hold gear since they lack magnetic closures, but their depth reassured me that my rangefinder wouldn't slip out. Having easy access to it while walking to your next shot will undoubtedly save you valuable time on the course, a benefit that pace-of-play advocates will truly appreciate.

In conclusion, the Sunday Ryder 23 is a standout golf bag that not only looks great but also delivers on the course. It offers a plethora of features that cater to golfers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned players. So, if you're on the hunt for a versatile, stylish, and functional golf bag that won't break the bank, the Sunday Ryder 23 is certainly worth considering. Happy golfing!
